clays powder
« on: December 10, 2017, 05:31:43 PM »
I am not sure this is the right spot for this question but recently I purchased a new jar of Hodgdon Clays because I was about out. The old jar had flakes very much trail Boss being small flat disks with a center hole.
The powder in the new jar had was fine granules of no definite shape.
Can any one tell me did they change the appearance of Clays?
This is puzzling and somewhat disturbing.
Respectfully submitted
Bunk

Hmm, that would disturb me as well, hopefully someone will know.  Otherwise there is on Hogdon's website a way to send them a message.  Not to doubt you (hey, your first post, you might be a crazy guy  :D ) but you're sure it isn't International or Universal Clays?  (although I don't recall what they look like, either.  I have an old can of Universal at home but I ain't there.)

Greetings Bunk -

partway down here are some photos a guy posted on Thu Jul 28, 2011 ( about 6 years ago)

here is an image from Gunblast comparing trailboss and clays
http://www.gunblast.com/images/IMR-TrailBoss/Thumbs/MVC-002F.jpg

and here is a really cool site I just found showing lotsa detailed informaation on clays and other powders:
http://www.ilrc.ucf.edu/powders/sample_detail.php?powder_id=84
note where it says
"NDPAs are very small. Perf disks similar to IMR Trail Boss Ref #718 but a bit smaller. Both are ADI products"

yet I don't see much on the way of donut holes.

so, yes I would concurr with Abilene - contact the maker!
cuz we are just a bunch of like-minded wack-a-doodles who are sometimes right ....

Call Hodgdons.
