Road Agent 12 Gauge Coach gun
« on: November 23, 2017, 02:57:14 PM »
The Road agent side by side with self-cocking hammers and 18 1/2 " barrels seems kinda cool. Price is pretty good at $445.00 at one shop, but I just can't get past those weird looking hammers! Or is it just my eyes?

Well Tex .....

I'm not "THE" authority.  Didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express recently.  I've actually seen some pretty strange Shotguns.  The thing is some kind of weird.  Dumb looking comes to mind too.  Perhaps a solution desperately seeking a problem??  MSRP around $600, available some places around $450-475 Maybe??

Frankly .. Frank.  A Cimarron 1878 is a real live Hammer Double.  Looks like a Hammer Double.  Works like a Hammer Double.  Built like a tank.  That "Road Agent" just doesn't come close.  I think it's gonna take about 50lbs of Fillet Minion to move it.

I suppose if there were no other SXS at all ...that is none other available anywhere....I'd be happy to do without this one.
Goofy comes to mind, the laser engraving on the Aluminum box action , reminds me of the meandering trail a snail leaves on your sidewalk.
Made in Turkey, I'd predict it will be scarce in a few months , no parts and only scant post scrip in a year.

Greetings My Dear Netizens ...

I have just seen the article on this monstrosity abomination thing in Guns Of The Old West.

My old adopted granny kept trying to teach me
“If you can,t say anything nice, don,t say anything at all...”
But it never took....

The design of the two piece aluminum receiver is just begging for breakage, the two triggers just don,t seem right
And the hammers are just plain ugly. Oh and the engraving doesn’t,t even fit on the receiver.

How La Vista Bill can praise it is amazing to me.

No offense to him, but boy I am much happier with my dumb plain stoger  hammerless than that ugly thing.
I could glue percussion hammers on the stoger and it would .. ..   never mind.

Did I mention it,s ugly?

I would rather haunt the shows until I found a used hammer gun (often found for under 400 bucks).

I Googled Road Agent 12 Ga. and found this picture among others. I'm no expert either but not my cup of tea.

MSRP was $599. My almost new Bounty Hunter cost me around $400.

My Good Perfesser  ;D

Regards "La Vista Bill" and his praises .... we must remember, when one is evaluating a product whom's advertising is helping to pay the "Bill's" it oft behoves one to display a certain amount of kindness.  Or Not.

I suppose when the Traveling Tinker is making it's sales pitch from the back of his wagon, and is including a pint of "Dr Feel Good" along with the proffered merchandize, and if one consumes said pint prior to evaluating the product, the unsolicited testimonial might be of a favorable bent.

However.  Not having sampled said pint of "Dr Feel Good" I find I am unable to find favorable words to describe this abomination.  Matters not if one espouses bright red Lip Stick for one's PIG, one is still attempting to market a PIG.  Nes Pax??

Greetings My Dear Coffin -

didjaget something to eat? didja didja?

You do make a good point; with the Prof Marvel Snake Oil hat on I make some amazing claims.

at some point however it seems like convincing strangers to purchase a piece of crap is selling your soul for $$$ ....

Professor ....... I certainly did.  The munching and crunching was good in the neighborhood!!   ::)

There are those in marketing whom are want to claim it is possible to grasp and elevate a Turd from the Clean End.  Similar to those same claims proffered by some politicians I fear.   :o

Tex

You have not been back  :-\  hope the off glowing heap of the Road Agent 12 Ga. has put you off or offended you....

I happen to know the Coffinmaker & Johnny McCrae personally and they are standup fellows, the good Prof. and I have never met but I know him by reputation.... :)
I trust these fellows would not steer you wrong.

You did not ask, but I'll aluminate .... The Road Agent 12 Ga might very well , serve as a SASS shotty, may already be approved.
I note that is your intended discipline , I believe reading your posts  :-\
I also note, you are gathering your hardware ( asked about the Remington 58 Army ).

If you were my Padawan  ;) I would steer you clear of the Road Agent 12 Ga. as well.
It is neither practical nor aesthetic,
It adds visible and rather dumb looking external hammers,  read extra moving parts to an otherwise internal box lock...
Baikal ( Russian) made a version (no longer in production ) and was not well received in CAS.

If you want a HAMMER GUN...

Cimarron 1878 as mentioned ....these are the Guns you will hear of as TTn's
these will be in the same Price range as Road Agent 12 Ga.

Frankly Frank, Frank's Franks are Frankly swell.

I don't think we drove "Tex" away.  Or even drove him off.  At least I would hope not.  Twould seem Tex's commentary pretty much mirrored the later comments.  He thought the contraption was somewhat weird too.  Also.

He'll be back.  Leastwise I hope he'll be back.  I'd hate to think in our haste to agree with him and perhaps embellish his dissertation, we gave the impression he wasn't well welcome.  Either.
