Outlaw (not recognized by SASS) shooting category
« on: November 20, 2017, 12:43:22 PM »
Just wondering if any other clubs are shooting the category we call "Outlaw"?

Basically, shooting the shotgun and pistols (duelist)  from the hip and the rifle from hip or shoulder.

We are having a blast with this and so far everyone is in it for "FUN"! Misses are prevalent, but the big smiles are worth it.

SASS does not recognize it officially. But, then again, that why it's called Outlaw!  :o

Our club allows Outlaw but then, our club dropped out as a SASS affiliated club.

I think outlaw flies in the face of safety.

Shot a match that was set up similar to "Outlaw" some years ago.  Didn't care for it at all.  Blow-By from my 45 Colt 1866 blasted up under my safety glasses and I spent two days getting all the grit out of my eyes.  Personally, have not seen the idea of "outlaw" as being really fun since.

PLUS ONE to Barleycorn!!  I can't personally recommend it.

Our club does it. It looks like fun, but I couldn’t handle all the misses!  Here are the rules we use http://www.thss.org/rules/outlaw-rules/

We had a shooter named Pecos years ago who always shot his pistols from the hip but now it wouldn't be allowed by the range due to the possibility of putting a round over the berm.

Eugene needs to be invited to a necktie party. ASAP!!

Maybe wing a shotgun target but you'll need to be dang good AND real lucky to hit any of our targets that way.

Rules exist for a reason - SAFETY - and scoffing at them makes zero sense.

Wait until one of these zipperheads ventilates another shooter or livestock or building way past the berm and see just how far that 'Outlaw' designator flies when the insurance men make their surgical strike, and whatever range that allows the practice is shut down.

It's an accident waiting for a lawsuit.

While Outlaw is not a recognized category most of the clubs in my part of the country allow folks to shoot it. In several state matches it is offered as a category if they have at least three people sign up for  it.

Some of you folks might recognize the name T-Bone-Dooley. Outlaw is the category he was shooting the last time I saw him shoot.

I've seen rounds go over the berm by almost every category in CAS but NEVER one by someone shooting outlaw.
The majority of OTB rounds I have witnessed have been by gunfighters.
