Front sight on 1860 Henry

...is getting harder and harder to see.
Is it NCOWS legal to add a bead- porcelain, ivory, or brass, much like a Marble's front sight to the 1860 Henry's ?

I fixed mine by getting cataract surgery now the front site is no problem     LOL  Many folks use a brass bead sight.  I am not sure what year Marbles or Lyman first started making them.  Book's or Trap will have a better idea on year.

On my 51 navy, that little itty bitty front sight was very hard to see. I got a
brass bead, along with the proper drill and bottoming tap, and it works

I think Luke Short used a bead as a front sight on his pistol.  OK Tom might know for sure.

I found a Lyman Gun Sight Catalog from 1888, that has a bead front sight shown, they are not quite like the modern era sights, but it is a bead on a post.  If you are doing an originals character from 1860-1888, I would say no to the sight on a Henry.  But I believe a bead would be perfectly legal at any shoot.

I have a harder time seeing too but rather than modifying the front sight I just put a small dot of paint on it. I have an old shotgun that has been handed down generations in my family that still has traces of a dab of paint on the front sight that I'm certain dates to turn of the century. So knowing the history of that gun I feel that is proof that someone did that. It was probably some kind of old barn or house paint from the looks of it.
