The great buffalo hunt
« on: September 12, 2017, 01:05:40 PM »

The KVC will host the GBH on Oct. 6, 7, 8. 30 rounds will be needed for score. 60 lb. buff. targets will need to be knocked down to count as a kill. Rifles must be single shot rifles or loaded 1 at a time. No sight ins or range finders allowed. Period camping available (a portable toilet will be available). Shooting will be in 2 segments of 15 shots each. There will be a chuck wagon on site to purchase reasonably priced meals. So that the cook may have enough food on hand please let us know if you plan on taking advantage of this service. There will also be a .22 buffalo shoot, need not shoot the big guns to enter.

This is a blanket shoot, so for each category you shoot you must bring a prize.
you may shoot Black or smokeless, Not both. Again if you are shooting the .22 match you must have a separate prize.

Big bore match $20 + blanket prize,  .22 $5 if entered in Big bore or $10 if it is the only match you are shooting + blanket prize

Directions to buffalo range From the intersection of I-35/US 50 & US 75; Go south 5.6 mi to 22nd road, go west 5 mi. to homestead road, south 2.5 mi. to gate on right (KVC sign)

Sorry, too small to knock down the targets at a velocity that would not damage our targets.

Sorry I won't be able to make it . I put on 2 similar buffalo shoots a year and my advice
is to use 525-540 gr bullets over real black. I had a new guy call and insisted on using
smokeless (you know that new stuff) and a 405 gr bullet. He hit the same buff 12 times
and it laughed at him. I keep track of calibers that are used and 45/90 is usually the most
common at the top of the leader board, although 45/70 will do alright.  Have fun

Howell , I have an objection on the '95 sorry. Objection: it is not period correct to the buffalo hunting era, I seem to remember you had an offer of a sharps if you bring your 45/70 ammo.     jt

We had great weather after the storm Fri. night. Scattered the heard, but they came back together. There were 12 hunters waiting for them. When the skinners went to work, In the big bore match Dennis Ryan had killed the most with a  97% kill rate followed closely by Dave Birk and Jack Bursovsky. In the rimfire match John Torrence lead with an 80% kill rate followed very closely by Anne Estrada and Dan Carder.    jt
