hurricane harvey
« on: August 26, 2017, 03:13:36 PM »
Raining like crazy here in the colorful suburbs of West Point, Texas home of the Darby Rough Regulators  (shameless plug). Shot a couple of rounds checking out a cap gun from the back door of my range house. Nothing to do but pet the cat and sip coffee. It started raining about mid afternoon Friday and has not stopped since. Stock ponds full and grass will green up pretty quick.
Ain't life wonderful. The first day below 85 in as long as i can remember. Sometime back in june I think.

We're about 4 hours from the storm.  We didn't have any rain until today.  It was just off and on showers.  Houston and Corpus are taking an old fashion ass whooping.

I live near NASA.  It has rained, and rained here.  I've only left the house to check the level of the neighborhood's drainage ditch.  Our neighborhood has been fortunate.  South of us, Dickinson in particular, wasn't so lucky.  I suspect our church in Dickinson has flooded.  It is on Dickinson Bayou.  My company, a major ethylene producer, declared a Hurricane period beginning Saturday, and is operating on a skeleton crew.  Non-essential personnel are not to report to work until further notice...this is due to road flooding in many areas.

I did hear one report of a fatality...I don't know the details other than a lady was found dead in her car. My oldest son lives in NE Houston.  is neighborhood street flooded and made it up his driveway some.

It appears that the storm is past us now, but it is really just beginning...The clean up and recovery are another storm in and of itself.

I will grab any '76 I see.  Is there a finder's fee?  I've been considering a 45-60 or a 50-95 lately!   ;D

Happy thoughts and wishes to y'all in the storm. I grew up on the beaches of Florida, and know first hand what they can do... which is one of the reasons we now live inland Georgia. Back in ought five, we had 3 of them roll over us in a matter of a couple weeks. The second one hit us pretty good, tearing off patches of roofing, the third one sat over us for 3 days and did the pee pee dance.  Structurally, the house was fine, just flooded. Then the mold set in. No power, no real food or gas, and there were huge lines when they started passing out bags of ice and jugs of water.

I remember there was one night, after partial power had been restored, I was taking the wife to work. She is a nurse, and drew the after storm shift, the storm shift had been there for 3 days straight. Anyways, there was a gas station open, and we needed gas in the car to get her to work. Some guy saw a pump open, and tried to get in there before anybody else, but we had been waiting in line and got there first. The guy come out of his car in a rage, wanting to fight. If I had more time, I would have gladly obliged him.

Times like that bring the animal out in people, and I am happier living in the woods with the real animals... they are more civilized.

You are right CQ , desperate people can and will do outrageous things. It does bring out the best in folk also. Last night three young  men from my neighborhood worked all night rescuing over 150 stranded people with their own air boats at their own expense . Its good to know there are Good Americans out there . ,,,DT

Thanks for asking , yes great , judging by what is happening to my neighbors. Some small flooding in the rear portion of my home , happens to be my gun room. But no real threat. Nothing like the last couple ( Ike and Rita ) . Biggest problem for me is I'm cutt-off from my other home  .  Here to help others now . ,,,DT
