1866 Trapdoor

Gentlemen,  I got to shoot an 1866 Trapdoor Springfield last night.  What a hoot!  That goofy u-shaped spring it uses for an extractor worked quite well.   What a giant step forward in technology for its day!

It amazes me the number of those things that are still around!  And what a great cartridge, when you consider it really was the first CF the army ever designed.

Definitely!  The .50-70 is my favorite cartridge in single shots.  I've got a line on where another 1866 may be.  Who knows?!

I got mine a month ago and have had fun with it. I live near Buffalo Bill's birthplace in Leclaire Iowa and have
done living history there. They don't have a Lucricia Borgia replica, so when I go back I can show mine. I would
really like to buy another to donate to their museum, if you know of one with a bad bore or missing internal
parts, That I could get reasonably to donate let me know.

I've got one with a missing sear, a bad breech block and barrel, and has had the end of the butt stock cut off, but I'm not interested in parting with my lamp.
