1861 musket lock
« on: July 10, 2017, 12:03:19 PM »
I was given this lock and now think I need a musket to put it in. It's in fine working order and I wonder if it would fit a replica. Should I find one I would age the whole gun to match the lock. Any one have a 1861 musket with a busted lock they would part with?

Back when I was a CW reenactor, I fit an original lockplate to a EuroArms musket. The lock parts on those were interchangeable with originals at the time. From what I have heard, Euroarms is now out of business. If you could find a used musket, it might work for your project. I am not sure about the current production repro muskets.

Check www.lodgewood.com and Bill should be able to let you know what locks will or won't fit into a repro muskey.

There are several makers of new barrels out there. I believe I would try and build a whole new rifle with the luck you have had.
