Rifle scabbard discussion
« on: June 25, 2017, 08:31:48 PM »
I have someone asking me to make one for them, but I am really clueless about them. The only cases I have, are cheapo camo ones WallyMart had on sale for $5 each. The rifle in question is a Henry Big Boy, but for the sake of argument, any lever action will work in this scenario.

So, we'll start with the shell. For holsters, I usually use 8-10oz leather, sometimes 4-6oz with 3-4oz liner. I never understood using anything heavier, specially since I hand sew. The person said he would like something heavy, would 10oz be heavy enough?

Now, let's talk liner... I was thinking about bark tanned shearling, but that stuff can be very pricey. I have also heard (read?) conflicting opinions on using this as a liner. What would you folks say to this?
