My first SAA-Cimarron-Colt 1873 P-7th Cav-45 Colt

I was just looking again at the pics and noticed the scrape marks on the right side of the hammer.  Too bad.   It's a minor thing, but one that shows a slight lack of precision that I see in a lot of new guns.  Fortunately it doesn't show with the hammer down.   It is easy enough to file or stone down the inside of the hammer cutout in the frame, but the case colors are already scratched on the hammer.  If it bothers you, clean up the cutout so it doesn't rub and then dab some cold blue on the scratches.  I like Dicrophan for this.

Normally, I first clean up the hammer channel, then I sacrifice the CCH on the Hammer by polishing off all the burrs for smooth running.

Mini range report.
34 deg with a 45 mph wind blow sideways on the range. DANG it was cold!
I used a standard one grip stance on both the 45 colt and S&W 357 magnum.
I only had 20 rds of 45 colt with me, 10 shot. 1 shot (the first) I think I completely missed the target at 50 feet!
Definitely not a good day to shoot and froze my butt off, thus the low hole count in the paper. With the black sights of the Colt 1873 on the black paper, this wasn't a good combo.

The Cimarron Colt 1873 Cav revolver was a pleasure to shoot! The hammer really functions nice and the trigger breaks crisp, cleanly. I don't have a trigger pull gauge but I would guess it's got a 3 lb pull. Slightly less than the S&W Mod 66 .357 mag.
The one head shot was intentional with the .357 mag.

If it's on the bottom front it's the serial number

No...it looks like the serial number is 3444 on the cylinder.

Well, that's what you get for gathering from a single post 

Cimarron sells Uberti and Pietta cartridge guns.
Taylors sells Uberti cartridge guns.
EMF sells Pietta cartridge guns.
Navy Arms sells Uberti cartridge guns.
Piettas with transfer bars are sold by some of the big box stores and by Traditions, I think.

Thanks Abilene-- From looking at Cimarron's website it does not show who makes which SAA except that the 7th Cav revolvers are
Uberti. I do like my Old Model SAA made by Uberti but was thinking Pietta for my next.

At Cimarron the "Frontier" line are the Piettas.  You can also tell by the model number, Ubertis start with MP or CA, and Piettas start with PP.  There actually is a Pietta Cavalry model as well.  It has the U.S. markings and grip cartouche, but does not have some of the additional markings and serial numbered parts that the Uberti has.
