Thought that I'd say howdy, you shouldn't shoot alone or is it drink? I forget. Shot my own 7.5 inch Colt yesterday in .38-40 at our clubs monthly. It was a hot one but we had a good time. I like those open tops you guys are showing off but I don't think that I can go back to SAs no matter how sharp they look.

Thanks Ed, not many around here to shoot with and yep drink alone most the time unless I crawl on the Harley and go to town but then I start howling to the moon and get in trouble.
Heck of a deal but then again all I have to argue with is myself , nice looking double action ya got there.  8)

You know, I love a Kirst gated conversion on an 1860.  If'in I didn't have too many cowboy pistols already, I do another like I had about 10-12 years ago.  It really wan't that hard to make the  loading channel.  5 Shot is fine for CAS anyway.

I`ve thought about doing that but the Kirst conversion cost about as much as buying a Cimarron new, can buy one for 550.00 here

Yep, same around here.  Just the cylinder and ejector rod coast as much as a Cimarrron Transitional.  The only advantage is that here in Californication, our draconian gun laws allow only one pistol every 30 days (so to be one gun of any kind!).  Black powder pistols are exempt.  If I had been wealthy when I started back, I actually thought of doing a pair of Pietta 1860s , both with Kirst gated and ejector rods.  They are just a tad sleeker than the Uberti 1860 Conversions, which are larger for .45 Colt.

I settled in on a pair of 1871/72 Open Tops.  IMHO, they are the sleekest of the Conversion styles...

Nice guns but as Coffinmaker said I probably would have a hard time seeing through the rear sight.
I`ll probably just shoot this one for a while and try and talk myself into a Cimarron Richards some day.

Well fellars I still haven`t bought another pistol been to busy building a drag saw and trying to survive the heat.
I read through this thread again and want to thank everyone for your posts and kind responses .  :)
I may get a little more excited about getting a Cimarron Mason factory conversion this fall when the weather cools down so I can get out and shoot more.
Cheers all.

I bought a set of Piettas in sheriff mods with conversion cylinders done by Coffinmaker last year .
Man I love them guns .
Then I bought  a Pair of 1872 Open Tops new in 44 specials .
And sent them to Long Hunters and had them reworked .
I love them also .

I ended up selling off three sets of Rugers .
Because I just did not like the actions anymore.

Kinda fell in love with the Open Top actions

Then I got a 1849 from TL with a Cartridge cylinder .
Sent that all off to Mike at Goonsgunworks.
Love that little Open Top too.
