Uberti 1875 barrel lenght
« on: May 12, 2017, 12:14:25 PM »
I am going to by an Uberti 1875 single action Army Outlaw or Frontier. One has a 7.5" barrel an done a 5.5" barrel.  It seems the 5.5" is an easier carry and would be faster to get into action.  But, the 7.5" might be more accurate given the longer sight radius.  Can any one give me their experience with either barrel length?  I'm sorry if this has been covered. I could not find it using the search feature.

They"ll both be accurate enough.
Mine is 7.5, but there is no big difference in accuracy even from a 4 3/4 barreled SAA.
Now historically the 5,5 1875 was produced in far less numbers than the 7.5

I've had multiple 75's with the 7.5" barrel, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Accuracy is good, it feels right in terms of balance and such, and it just looks and feels right. Just my opinion though.

If I was going to have a 5.5" Remmie, I'd go with the 1890 Police version...Very Cool.

Yep! There the 5.5 was the common lenght, the 7.5 being the rare one.

I use 2 5.5" 75's for my main CAS pistols, on the 5th year now, never a hiccup.

The decision was easy.  I prefer to use local B&M stores when possible.  My local dealer found out there is a 6 month backorder on the 5.5" pistols, but the 7.5" are in stock for immediate delivery.  Guess which I chose.  Hint, this time Saturday, I'll be on the range trying out my new pistol  ;D

Good choice! The Uberti 1875 Remington repro is great fun, and I'm a big fan of the longer barrel.

I have two Uberti Remington Outlaws with the 7.5" barrels in .44WCF and  I would purchase the same length again.  They handle and point well for me and have performed well for me.  I have shot mostly black powder loads thru these with good results also.

It actually doesn't make one whit of difference what your shooting.  Remington, Colt, Reproductions, Percussion ....... Nada.  Reducing the sight radius magnifies any sighting error.  The guns themselves are no more or less accurate.  If you lock a 7 1/2 inch barrel gun in a Ransom Rest, and a 4 3/4 inch gun right next to it, you won't be able to tell which gun shoots which group, provided the ammunition has been optimized to each specific gun.  The accuracy out of the Ransom Rest becomes entirely dependent on the shooter.

There are miles and miles of variables when judging accuracy.  Grip, Grip strength, Trigger position, Trigger pull, Sight Picture add finiteum.
Where was I going ........... Oh Yea .. I remember

The length of barrel only makes a difference to the shooter.  What ever the shooter is most comfortable with will work the best for that shooter.  Personally, I think any barrel longer than 3 1/2 inches is wasted steel.  That's just me.  So ..... if it feels good in YOUR hand, it's right for YOU.  Even if the barrel is too long  ::)

I have the Uberti 1875 Outlaw in 44-40 with a 5.5" barrel. I like the look of the 7.5", giving it more style points, more of a movie gun, but I thought the 5.5" would be more practical. I think accuracy comparison of the two should be a nonissue at the target distances we shoot in CAS.
