Interestingly, when I got the rifle, it seemed to have a hitch in the cycling, which I traced to a kind of "knuckle" on the rounded (well, supposed to be rounded) end of the carrier lifter arm. I don't pretend to be a gunsmith, so I crossed my fingers that the knuckle wasn't supposed to be there and I filed it round. That made cycling much smoother. It's interesting that the lifter arm is set on one end for a positive slam down, but isn't even properly rounded on the other end...
