High Quality saddle scabbard?

A high quality lever gun Saddle scabbard?

Some time back we got into a discussion on saddle scabbards. I have a hundred year old Boyt and a Ray Holes that is 50 years old. Both are made from Herman Oak skirting leather and either could easily be considered the "gold standard" of lever gun scabbards. Except for the fact the Ray Holes is a copy of the Boyt

I am sure Ray Holes shop will still make you a decent scabbard but like the Colt Custom Shop it is going to be awhile and likely the price is going to be higher than you expected.

Met a saddle maker and honest old cowboy a year ago that I have become friends with. He's also a gunman who knows what "professional quality" leather is. I asked him to make me up two new scabbards for my own adventures. But not the norm. Had him take the old Miles City scabbard home and make me up some new  scabbards for my '86 carbine with a 22" barrel and another for the much smaller 20" Model '92. Don't own a '94 and don't like generic.  The '92 is a might smaller the '86 a good bit larger by comparison to a '94.  I'd rather have two scabbards that actually fit the rifles correctly and go under my leg easily. Just as importantly sewn up by someone with some serious leather working skills.

Nothing fancy, dbl riveted strap loops, 48" straps and plain old skirting leather. Fully welted seam.  These two should easily go another 100 years.

Those look really nice, yahoody. And they're made to fit the rifles. Congratulations. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Marshal.  Figured someone else might be interested after seeing what was easily available around here.  Wait time was just a few weeks this Winter.

I just made a couple scabbards this week. One is a copy of an old Meanea scabbard and the other is made from Will Gormleys pattern.
