R&D conversions?
« on: February 07, 2017, 09:43:27 PM »
Did R&D stop making the 6 shot 45 colt conversion cylinders?  I have one I bought several years ago and was looking around and only see 5 shots cylinders now?

Thanks

Taylors and Co still list a Howell Old West Conversions (R&D) 6 shot cylinder for Ruger and 58 Remington's.  Whether they are actually still available, no clue.  For Colt reproductions, 5 Shot only.

I looked on Kenny Howell's site and he list 6 shot 44 conversion, not the 45 colt.  Of course I could load heel base but the 6 shot 45 was a nicely made and convenient.

My guess is he decided on the straight through boring since it's easier than angling the chambers like the 6 shot.

I'll check Taylors out and see what they say.

Thanks.

Taylor's Firearms is the only vendor carrying the 6 shot 1858 R&D cylinders.  I just got two for my 1858 Piettas I got from Cabelas (they had a sale!).  Even Kenny Howell doesn't sell the 6 shot .45s any more.

The rights to sell the 6 shot .45C cyl were sold to  Taylor's. The alignment of the chambers has to be bored off axis to allow 6 .45C cartridges to be loaded in the (Remie) cylinder. That's why Taylor's is the only place you'll find um.

Now I get it, thanks.  I knew about the off axis boring, but was not aware he'd sold the rights.

Thanks.

And that 6 shot conversion cylinder in an 1858 is a hoot.  I'm looking for my second to convert my other Cabela's 1858 to play a little different angle in BP for CAS.

Too many toys in the cowboy action shootin' world to ever get bored... ;)
