FEG Hi-Power Clone
« on: February 02, 2017, 08:34:53 PM »
I know someone was looking for a brace of Hi-powers.  These are parts interchangeable with the originals, and some believe to be of better steels than the Portugal guns.  I've shot a few and liked them.

The Hungarian Factories put out some fine hardware, and they are a great bargain as well.

Frank Hamer uses a brace of P35s in Zoot matches.  You might say this is THE gamer gun in AZSA matches.

I've never liked this model.  The hammer bite on it is far worse than the 1911 ever was for me.  Never shot one with the spur hammer that may have been better.

You have to remember that there is not 100% parts interchangeability between FN Herstal made Hi-Powers (P35) and Canadian Inglis models. The FN models were metric whereas the Inglis models were SAE standard.

I was given a complete armourer's parts replacement package with hundreds of spares by a retired arms tech who had intended to use them in gunsmithing when he retired. Once he learned of the difference, he lost interest.

I passed them off to another 'smith who at first refused to believe me until he ordered a Bar Sto barrel for a Hi-Power he was building for a customer. First question - "Is it an FN produced military/commecial model or an Inglis?"

The "commander" hammer and the spur hammer BOTH take chunks out of my hand.  Fantastic pistol otherwise.  I've got an old Belgian one I don't shoot much because I'm not into bleeding on my guns........

Never been bit by either one.  Got the right shape hand for it I guess.  Now a Walther PP will draw blood every damn time!

I wanted one of those until I actually got to hold one.  I could see the web of my hand having twin scars from the slide!

I've had bottom of a Walther slide cuts from a PP, PPK and PPK/S.  I've just never learned.
