Sambar stag panels for making grips
« on: January 11, 2017, 07:31:54 PM »
I'd like to make some sambar stag grips for my Schofield.  I've made walnut grips in the past but never tried stag.  Anyone know where I can buy stag panels (scales) large enough for handgun grips.  The knife maker suppliers have stag but it's not wide enough.  For the Schofield I need panels that are about 4 1/4" by 2 1/4".

Try http://www.elenhunting.com/
I have never bought from them, but a friend bought a whole bunch of boar's tusks from them for a nice Mycenaean helmet.  They were very helpful he said.  I have perused their website a couple of times and they have sanbar.

Sorry, I totally missed your measurements.   I have never seen one that big.  Probably need to find a crown and cut your one slabs.
