Anybody watching The Alienist?
« on: February 17, 2018, 12:17:09 PM »
Did anyone catch the .32 Colt DA revolver that Police Commissioner Rooseveldt looked at last episode? It didn't look correct to me but I'm not a Colt expert. I'm thinking that it would have had a half moon front sight,  thought that I saw a flat on the back. An interesting whodunnit. Definitely different.

Takes place in NYC at the turn of the century, T. Rooseveldt is the police commissioner. His investigators, who are not police, are using new fangled forensics and psychological profiling to solve a series of gruesome child whore murders he believes are being committed by a person from a prominent family. Jack the Ripper kinda. Who's crimes are being covered up by corrupt police officers in their employ. It's very dark as JJ says. I was curious if anyone had noticed the delivery of crates of DA Colts? What would have been the 4 in DA revolver that TR refers to? 1892-96, AS ,Police Positive or something alse?

The 32 was mentioned, but, he was looking at a large frame New Service, maybe a 44 or 45 caliber. The Colt 32 New Police was highly regarded by Roosevelt and many were acquired for the NYPD. The cartridge was the 32 S&W Long, with a 100 grain flat nosed bullet, and renamed the 32 New Police. That was back when a manufacturer was not about to put their competitor's name on their guns.
