The Hateful Eight......emmmmm
« on: May 20, 2016, 12:26:47 PM »
Took time out today from the drudge to watch Tarantino's Hateful Eight. Hmmmmmmmm. What to say? If it was discussed before here, forgive, but I didn't see it. What y'all think of it? Firstly it's very well made, sharp and handsome. It's got a great cast, I won't name them, great dialogue and the odd flash of gunplay. But, boy is it bizarre. Tarantino plays with time shifts, cutting back to what happened before. I liked that. But the slow earlier scenes are, well, slow. I'm glad I stuck with it though. Some laughs, some well deserved killings and lots of undeserved killings.

Kind of my thoughts. I ultimately enjoyed it, but I don't see it being one I'll go back to any time soon.

Haven't seen it - won't see it given Tarantino's dissing of the men in blue earlier this year.  His gratuitous violence and bizarre story lines are not my cup of tea anyhow; so, no great loss.

This was one of the most unpleasant movies I have every watched. A misuse of a truly talented cast.
I warned my extended family that their life would be happier if they never watched this movie.

I enjoyed it but as with most of Tarantino's movies it seemed to take place in an alternate universe. Sam Jackson's character is an ex-union officer who says he was kept in a Confederate POW camp in West Virginia. Probably the only Confederate camp to be located in a Union state.

Todays movies are too graphic for my liking.  Last night my wife and I watched Jimmy Stewart in The Man From Laramie, much more pleasant to watch.  If this movie was remade today, the scene where the young guy shoots Jimmy's hand, it would actually show it blown off with blood flying everywhere.  I can visualize it , I don't need to see it.

IMHO, Bone Tomahawk and The Hateful Eight are two of the worst movies I've EVER seen.  Total waist of time.
