1873: Fitting a New Extractor
« on: October 24, 2016, 08:58:00 AM »
Hey Everybody,

Is there a DIY guide available regarding replacing and fitting a new extractor on a 1873 rifle?  ??? ???

I got an original, and the extractor got bent somehow, need to replace it, or somehow bend it back.  It's a new extractor made a few years ago, original one was replaced at that time.

Thanks

God forgives, I don't........

I have never seen any.  Drive out the retainer pin and remove the old extractor is about the only instruction.  Then the new extractor has to be hand fitted.

Piling On.  OR:  Plus One to Pettifogger.  A bent extractor can't be "bent back."  Once bent it's junque.  New extractor will need fitted.  You'll need a really small punch to drive out the old pin.  I also suggest a new pen be used.
