Krag vs SMLE shootout.
« on: October 21, 2016, 08:06:44 PM »

Saw this linked to on Surplusrifleforum. Krag shooter beat the SMLE barely. While they both might just be a bit (ok, a lot) more athletic than most of us, either Drydock or Pitspitr could easily load and fire a Krag way faster.

I bet we could set up a stage like that at Camp Pitspitr.....

While I love me some some Krag, the sad fact is that it was outdated when it was introduced. :(

My daughter watched the video with me and said "that's not scientific at all."   8)

My take away on this is that Americans are better shooters than our British cousins. ;D

This test is completely bogus. First, it should have been made with the same guy. You're testing rifles not individual skills. Second that's a sporterized Krag you got there. Third if it's Spanish - American war being tested it should be the Spanish Mauser not a SMLE,  and the actual conditions are no way similar to what the rough riders had to face.

This is just a bunch of guys having fun, nothing scientific about it.

I think it was meant to be entertaining, not scientific.

Both testers have a lot to learn about reloading.

I wonder where we could get some of those targets?

Go to any sporting goods store and talk to the manager about any damaged mannequins he might have.

Stores do toss them. While working as a heavy equipment operator we were digging a new 'cell' at a landfill several years ago. I saw a truck come in and dump a load of nothing but store mannequins and the thought came to me instantly that they would make good targets for shooting instead of silhouette paper targets. Five minutes later the landfill crusher/packer made plastic junk out of them. Might be productive to ask any retail store involved in selling clothes to ask if they have any they want to get rid of. Was an interesting to watch Krag vs SMLE shoot though, have done some side by side speed vs accuracy with some of my military bolt guns in the past, interesting and fun to do, they are of the WW2 variety though.

I suppose the reason they put a Krag against an SMLE, was because those two have a reputation for being "fast" bolt actions.
