Meat on the rocks
« on: October 12, 2016, 11:13:20 AM »
Just wanted to share that camp cooking needn't be difficult or require cast iron. With your fresh shot deer find a flat rock and get it very hot at the edge of the fire.  Pour a bit of water over it to dislodge any dirt and confirm that it's boiling hot then place a strip or two of bacon on it and cook till brown. That will grease the rock so you're ready to cook the deer. A bit of salt and pepper to the medium rare meat, serve with a cup of whiskey. Clean up is roll the rock into the fire.

Excellent post! good old-fashioned Boy Scout Stuff.

One can add biscuits if one  takes Bisquick in a ziplock or other watertight container, add water and roll the dough into  long snakes, wrapping them around switches stripped of ther bark. Stick em in the ground close the fire and rotate occasionally. Pick your switches carefully tho.. the wrong wood can spoil your day.

Yep I've done stick bread by the fire and you're right it's good stuff.
