Chiappa?

What is yalls experience with Chiappa? I've been looking at their 1886 45-70 lever gun. It looks amazing and dry cycles well but I cant find any info on their long term performance. I figured this would be the place to ask.

Hi, I bought one earlier this month.  I had to get the purdy one instead of the plain old variety.  No plain ones around.  I have an 1886 and a Cavalry Sharps from Chiappa.  5 pound trigger pull on the 1886, more than 8 on the Sharps.  I only have 10 rounds through the 1886 and don't know how well it shoots.  Cycles nicely and is really too purdy for me.

Thank you for your reply! There is the taylors and co 1886 here in Tulsa I've been debating on getting. I think thats the jazzed up version of the standard chiappa 1886? I think it's the one you have. They want $1,399 for it but it's their only one and is the one on display. I'm thinking of going in there and offering $1,200 cash for it since it's the demo I am assuming they received from Chiappa.

The Chiappa '86's I've handled looked good but the action was pretty stiff.  Nice thing about them is no lawyer safeties!

Yeah I noticed the action when I handled it at the store...the fit and finish was amazing and the wood to metal was better than my Henry. I really liked the heavy weight too as far as looks I am sold. If I do end up buying it I will do a solid review on youtube.

If you do, please link us to the review. I've kept an eye out for reviews of the Chiappa 1886 rifles but haven't seen much yet.

I like mine. I got the 26" rifle and a 22" carbine. 1886 Carbine in 45-70 is about the perfect packing rifle.

Well fellas I had a good deal come up I couldn't pass. I bought a Browning Model 78 hiwall 45-70 yesterday. It was part of an estate sale and looks like it's never been fired...although I'm sure it has been it's in like new condition. Thanks to yall that responded.

I had mine out again to sight in a new Marble Folding flat top rear sight and a Lyman Peep Sight.  I put some Hoppe's on the two locking bolts.  That really made a difference.  I'm not all that accurate with it yet.  Teddy Roosevelt had a 1895 Winchester in .405 that he referred to as "Big Medicine".  Since this sucker carries 9 rounds, 8 in the tube plus one in the chamber, it's "Much Medicine" in my shooting diary.

Really, 86s' are just really great big '92s on mega steroids.  For the most part, whether Chiappa, Browning (Miroku), other, etc., they respond to the exact same ministrations to make em user friendly as the '92 does.  You don't have to live with great heavy springs, and rough spots with burrs.  They will clean up a run really nice.
