Conversion
« on: September 10, 2016, 07:15:33 PM »
Hi, Folks:
I have been very interested in the 1873 Springfield Trapdoor and absolutely Love the
"Officer Model". Of course I will never be able to afford the 15 to 20K price tag so it
leads me to wonder if other folks have ever thought of converting a full-length Springfield
Trapdoor to resemble the item I mentioned. Thoughts?

Best Wishes,

Bruce

H&R and Pedersoli both make a reproduction. I recently bought an H&R version for $700 and it is a great shooter.

My H&R is quite nice. The Pedersoli is magnificent . I see Buffalo Arms has them in stock for just under $2000

Cimarron also carries a Pedersoli officer's trapdoor that is a copy of Billy Dixon's rifle (the original is in the Panhandle Plains Museum).  List is $2400.  Looks like it has different sights than the one Dixie carries.

Here is some visual food for thought. Pictured is my full length Springfield trapdoor Gemmerized by John Bergmann with the H&R Officers Model. The trapdoor can be made into a fine looking weapon.  Jw

Ah My Dear Herr Wagon -

I had always lusted after a gemmerized trapdoor, but
after drooling over your photo I now cannot decide which is more beautiful!
