What's the deal with 1F ??
« on: May 14, 2016, 09:54:55 PM »
What's the deal with 1f powder?

I've heard people use in shot shells for extra boom and flames........is that true?

Can it be used in .44 cal cartridges and c&b guns?

I've always used 2f, but when I wanted to set off car alarms, I'd get some Swiss 3f.
God forgives, I don't........

I think it is used in the big ol' Brown Bess 69-72 cal smoothbore muskets and shotguns. I would use it in the shotgun. It is pretty coarse to go through a revolver powder flask without bridging the big grains that would cause irregular loads.

I have used it (Skirmish) in all guns, cartridge, cap and ball and shotgun.  Huge amount of fouling but if you are willing to live with that, it shot OK.  Lots and lots of boom and flame.

I haven't seen any 1F, but there's a local gun shop that has some Cannon grade, I wonder if it's usable in anything (besides cannons)

The powders are graded: 1Fg is sporting powder and 1FA (Skirmish) is Goex blasting powder repackaged in old Clear Shot cans
All my shot shells are loaded with 83gr (square load) of Skirmish.  Candidly, the foul is no better or no worse than Fg, etc FFg but the price of Skirmish is better
