And the band played on
« on: April 03, 2016, 10:52:44 AM »
During the banquet at the recent convention the fire alarm went off and we all had to go outside.
The band members took their instruments with them and soon began playing, then some of our
members began dancing. This being a fire call at a large hotel complex, Davenport fire sent all
their trucks, then the closest TV station sent a photographer, the fire ended up being a heat sensor
on the roof shorted out, so there was no fire to film, so they filmed our group and showed it Sat. night
Sun. and Mon. morning. I met with the manager Sun morning and he apologized for our inconvenience.
He offered to do something to compensate the issue. I said a donation for next years ladies tea would
be appreciated, so yesterday I got a $200 check that I'll be forwarding to our banker. Thanks to you all
that were there for being good sports about it.

I was proud how everyone conducted themselves. There was no panic and we all exited in an orderly manner.  It might have been different if there had been actual flames visible but somehow I don't think so.

Kinda brings to mind the Band on the Titanic ... it's a stretch perhaps

But " "Nearer, My God, to Thee" is my favorite hymn

Major, I made that very comment as we stood outside listening to the band.

I agree,  They were great.  The convention was great.  Thanks Johnny and Bear Tooth for all your hard work. I think the fire just added a little spice.  It was so cool when the band came out and played for us in the rain.

I thought the Band did a great job. I requested the "Bonnie Blue Flag" and they played it right away.

One of the melodies I can pick my way through on guitar.....along with "shall we gather at the river".
As long as my memory cooperates.

Never know when those two tunes can come in handy  ;)
