Anyone have experience with Colt Lightning revolvers?
« on: March 24, 2016, 06:44:41 AM »
Got some timing/lockup issues with a newly-rebuilt Lightning. Cylinder over-rotates on one chamber (two chambers past empty chamber clockwise) in DA when loading 5 cartridges. Otherwise fine (DA with 6, SA).

Any ideas?

I wish you luck with that. My 86 year old uncle sent one to me for work and as I recall, it was over rotating due to a tiny broken leaf spring which I could not find. I FINALLY got it back together, breathed a huge sigh of relief and sent it back to him.

Best of luck!  The Colt Lightning/Thunderer DA revolvers have a reputation as "trouble" guns and many smiths will not touch them.

I'm thinking next time, I will spend the extra money just to get one that's in perfect working order. In the meantime, I will figure this one out - eventually.....

tommy4toes,

Just a suggestion on my part,,,
Get yourself an extra set of parts to insure you can correct the problems you are now having. (if need be)
The '77's can be fun to shoot. I would, however, not suggest they be used as a main match type of firearm for W/CAS type events.
In the mean time, enjoy it.
My best,
