Was watching this auction, because, hey, who can't use an extra Frontier Six Shooter. But good lord, the final price was unbelievable.

                                    :o :o :o $4025.00  :o :o :o

Pardon my French, but WTF did I miss?

Far be it from me to know about Colt values, but...

The condition (NIB), special edition, special presentation case, and the BP frame.  I know there were some BP-framed SAA's made a few years back, but I've never heard of it on a 2nd Gen (of course, just because I haven't heard of it doesn't mean too much  :) )

These Gunbroker auctions can be bizarre...

Several months ago I decided to sell my NIB with all paperwork, manual, etc., pristine, in absolutely perfect condition 3rd Generation 4 3/4" .44 Special. A few days before I had seen an identical model without a box, slightly used, minor turn line, etc. sell for a little under $2000. So I list mine and much to my dismay, it brought around $1750. Go figure....

That's what I mean, I've been watching the Centennial Commemoratives for a while trying to find the .45. As I want a shooter I tend to watch all the Centennials to gage a fair price, and lately the .44 caliber guns have been bringing around $2000 to $2400 as a rule NIB. I guess it was the fact someone was willing to bid that high to get one of them that surprised me, more so that two people bid it up that high. I wonder if each may have had the consecutive number, one above and one below it.

Abilene, The Peacemaker Centennials were supposedly the only black powder frame 2nd generation SAA's made. They made 2002(?) of each the .45 in cavalry configuration and the .44 nickeled Frontier Six Shooter. They were serialed as PCXXX and XXXPC and could be had as a matched set, one of each. The .44 was supposed to be the only 44 WCF made in the second generation. I actually have a very early 3rd gen .45 with a 4 3/4" barrel, cross pin frame that came from the factory with a case hardened hammer and a round ejector rod head where they were apparently using up the leftover parts from the series.
