This sent me into search mode;  http://hlebooks.com/pinfire/prices.htm

I seem to have seen some pinfire reloading kits & components still available in France.

 A gunsmith friend here in British Columbia owned a pinfire shotgun when he was MUCH younger. He was able to convert normal cf shotgun cases to pinfire, if the rim seat on the barrels had been made wider, or if the case had a narrow rim. I have also heard that Magtech cases can be converted to pinfire.

Apparently some transition pieces were made to fire either pinfire or central fire ammunition.

Heh! I found the thread I was involved in a while ago on 16ga.com;

Drydock; I wasn't really trying to hijack your thread, but as you gave the title as "Pinfire!" I thought it convenient to tag on spme kinda-related info in the event someone were to search. ;)

One of the Kansas cattle towns had a Deputy Marshal that carried a 9mm pinfire revolver. I cannot recall his name just now.

I believe that the Rollin White patent was a big inhibitor of handgun developement. Pinfire revolvers would be in violation and could not be openly sold. I do think that there was an active private sale system going on.

I think one of the big issues is that Rollin White, bored through cylinder, did not fallow through with obtaining Patents in many of the countries that he should have.
This would not have helped with the Pin Fire type arms in France, which were patented, before Rollin White. And may be the cause for him not proceeding with his patent in France.
However, it does not keep Rollin White from having S&W going after them with his Patent Infringments.
My best,
