Thanks, Steve,

I considered using that method. I used it when I restored my civil war 3" ordinance rifle ( I used a battery charger) and it did a good job.

I got the antique gun restoration kit mentioned above, and it is working out very well, as far as I've gotten. I'll post some pictures when I'm done.

I've finished using the antique gun restoration kit and thought I would post pictures. Thanks to Two Flints.  There was no bluing on the gun, and I found a note inside the gun dated 1991. Maybe the bluing was removed then. It looks better than when I started.

The kit  was about $30 and was easy to use. I recommend it highly.
