Time-Life Old West Series
« on: January 30, 2016, 04:04:48 AM »
Does anyone else collect this set of books?  It originally came out in the 1970s.  I only need two more volumes to have a complete set.  I've been collecting this series in second-hand stores and on eBay for the past year.  There's a lot of good information, and the bibliography in the back of each book is an excellent resource.  My favorite book so far is "The Rivermen"- why isn't Grant Marsh better known?

Good question, I suppose he is mostly overlook... in the vast history of the Custer massacre  :-\

He piloted the " Far West " that brought the wounded troopers from the Reno/Benteen fight.
He is better known, I would think in the Dakota's, Montana and Missouri, than the South or Eastern seaboard.
when planets align...do the deal !

40 Rod,

Good guestions?
How many books are in the series?
I have a set of 10 books within the series. I do not recall if they are a complete set, or if there maybe some duplicates within the 10 books I have.
My best,

40 Rod,

The two books I need are "The End and the Myth" and "The Frontiersmen".  I've never seen either of these two in used bookstores, although they do show up on eBay from time to time.  I live in Corvallis, Oregon.

Hello folks,
Did ye ever get the two books Gus? Abe books might be a source. I saw these in '75 and knew I had to get 'em!
I think they were about 5 pounds back then, I've seen them over the years in various numbers. Did anyone collect Time-Life
The Civil War, collectors library of the Old West, and the excellent collectors library of the Civil War? Superb all of them.

It's been a while since the OP has visited this site, but here's "The Frontiersmen":

Here's "The End and the Myth":

I buy a lot of books from Half.com.
