CVA Remington New Army Conversion Cylinder
« on: January 09, 2016, 11:04:43 PM »
Hello,
I have a CVA/Armi San Marco 1858 Remington Army from the early 1990s that I would like to convert to fire .45 Colt cartridges.  My question is, which conversion cylinder should I buy, an Unberti or a Pietta?  I would like to use a Taylor's/R&D cylinder.  I've done some searching online and it looks like a Uberti cylinder will work, but I am wondering if anyone has any experience converting a CVA Remington revolver.

Thanks,

Gustav Ritter

I believe if you buy it (Cyl) from the Girls @ Taylor they have their guy fit it.

I know if you buy the Gun & cylinder they will fit free, course on your gun there might be a charge... :-\

Gustav

I always use the Pietta and then turn the OAL length to fit. After that measure the bolt width and adjust the off side to a dimension a couple thou smaller than the narrowest bolt notch in the cylinder. If you run into issues just give me a shout!

Guten Abend,

Thank you all for the information.  I measured the cylinder on my Remington (date code BA) and it came out to 2".  The Uberti cylinder should work fine.  I'm looking forward to shooting this gun again, without cleaning up black powder gunk.  The gun has never actually hand any lead through it.  I only used it for Civil War reenacting in the 1990s.  I went to CVA's website just now and it's a shame they don't sell any traditional black powder guns anymore, I always liked their products, and they had a reputation for quality.  The CVA Hawken is a rifle I've wanted for a long time.

I would like to find the diameters for the ,36 caliber cylinders.    I am getting a bare ( no barrel ) frame and since I have to get a barrel and cylinder,  i am thinking  to make it a 36 cal.  will 36 parts work in a 44 frame?

Greetings My Good LordMacK

It may depend upon the frame manufacturor and what year.
I know that the Piettas I have had (made after ~ 2005 or so) used one frame for both calibers, and would take both .36 and .44 cylinders .

I think I may still have a Pietta .36 cylinder soaking in kroil somewhere if you are interested...
