Model 1876 Winchester REBARREL.
« on: December 22, 2015, 07:53:46 AM »
Model 1876 Winchester REBARREL. This Winchester 1876 half mag 24" oct. 45/60 wcf  does not letter as such. The rifle is an original but has been cut-down fron a 28" oct. barrel. It does have a good bore and shoots very good. A few wks. ago I ordered a new barrel to be built for this rifle with all the roll markings . It is a 26" half oct half rd. .50 cal. cut rifleing .500"/.510" ROT will be 1X 38" . Should get the barrel in a few wks. The other mods. Extractor / lifter are all here and none of these are permanent changes . Think with this ROT the 50/95 will stabilize a 350gr. bullet very well. Just may become my newest hunter rifle for next yr. and a hog thumper all yr. around.  Here is a pic. of the doner rifle.,,,DT

Sweet what kind of time frame did they give you? Are you having them antique the finish?

Hey Buck it should be a fun gun. Will give me a chance to play with the old 50/95wcf. Can hunt wild hogs yr. around here , so they will get a taste of it.   High Plains Drifter glad you are rebuilding a 76. I ordered the barrel from them in late Nov. and did not ask about time frame ,Have sent a message to Bob asking when I might expect the barrel. Have not heard back as of yet. But will let you know . What Cal. barrel are you looking for , for your 76? Besides the rebarrel 76 , I have a couple of 76 frames and barrels that I was planning on rebuilding and still may. Always looking for 76 Win. parts myself. Would be glad to help you if I can.,,,,,,DT

Dusty my 76 originally was a 45 60 with a 28 inch full octagon barrel. Honestly id prefer to put a 45 75 barrel on it but ive had no luck finding a useable one. Id much rather find a good original barrel in either caliber as all the rest of my parts are original Winchester pieces.

HPD not easy to find a good uncut 76 barrel in good shape. But they do come along every once in a while. I will keep my eye out for one . The 45/75 wcf is my favorite of the four. I did hear back from Bob at Winchestergunbarrels yesterday. He is in the finishing stage of the 50/95 barrel , should be getting it soon.  I am ready to do the final fit and finish and installation. Think I will start off testing the new barrel with ndnchf 's recipe 's . He has worked with the 50/95 with good results.   ,,,,,DT

This is the look the 1876 with the new 50/95  barrel , that I hope to end up with. Stole this picture from the good folks @ Collectore firearms. It is what I am duplicating as an Express Rifle mine in 50 cal. . Sure like the looks of this one, and should be a very handy sporting rifle. By the way, the rifle pictured is for sale @ Collectore 's Firearms  Better Bring Your Checkbook!.,,,,,DT

Dusty thanks for looking. Im probably going to get a new one from the guys that are making yours if i dont find a shootable original by the time you get yours and see how you like it.    That picture looks awesome. It reminds me so much of the rifle Richard Boone used in Rio Conchos but that was a halmag 73 if i rember right.

HPD Hope to get the barrel soon , will be sure and give an evaluation ASAP. The only original barrel that I have extra now is a Round 22" 45/60 wcf . But will keep an eye out. The rifle pictured is a beauty to me. There was a time that this type of configuration was not well liked by me. Funny now I like em a lot! It was a 1873 Winchester that Richard Boone carried in that movie. Remember it well. A while back I was lucky enough to purchase a 1873 Winchester with Half Mag, Half oct./ round barrel ,fancy wood. That is when this style started growing on me. Good luck on your build ,,,,,,,,DT

Nice .50 you are making up Dusty.   I'd like to rebarrel mine as well and make it a short mag version.
Mind adding a link to your barrela maker or and email address and  phone?

The '73 Boone used is also the same rifle that Paul Newman used in Hombre.
That rifle has spawned a lot of clones I suspect.
