Feeding Issue

My original 1860 carbine try to feed two rounds at a time into the action. Could there be a part missing in the tube, something that stops the second round from falling onto the block?

The likely culprit is the cartridge keeper lever (the forked thingy on top of the receiver) which controls the location of rounds as they feed from the magazine and perhaps a weak spring working it.

On the lower breach block, forward of the upper block, there should be a cartridge stop.
This is either missing or has been filed off or down enough that it wont serve as a stop any longer.
S&S or Lodgewood should have replacement.

If it's double feeding on just the first couple rounds out of the magazine it's the cartridge ramp spring. That's the V spring in the top of the frame just behind the breech block opening that pushes down the cartridge ramp. If it's double feeding every round, it's probably the stop rib in the lower breechblock. That's the saw tooth along the center line of the lower block.

One other possibility, is your magazine spring a replacement? If it's a lot stronger than the original that can cause the problem too.

Unlike some later tube magazine repeater, such as the Chafee-Reese, Spencers don't use mechanical stops in the magazine. It's a balanced spring setup.

Thanks for all of the help guys, I believe the culprit to be the spring in the top of the reciever, as it is missing haha. Thanks again.

Couple things about that spring:

Watch that the spring is the correct length on both arms and check if there is a screw in the bottom of the corresponding hole in the top front end of the buttstock. 

I have encountered original springs with short leafs and some stocks with a screw in the stock hole.
