New (to me) old Navy Arms Remmie
« on: September 28, 2015, 07:39:46 PM »
Well, found an old 44 Remington '58 on GB, bid and won, so far nothing new. Got it home tonight and in looking it over, it's an old Navy Arms gun, XVII ('61) with the Bogata address, and under the barrel is that wonderful G U marking. Has a 4 digit serial, 15XX, and sadly has had the front sight replaced (dovetail) for competition shooting, probably at Friendship. It'll take a mallet to pop the cylinder pin, so I'm letting it soak for a bit before I try. Ought to be fun getting her ready to shoot, ah another winter project. ;D
I'll try to post some pics of it later this week.

Ok, still playing around, dug out my other Uberti/ Navy Arms '58, also 4 digit serial in 45XX range, 1963. This one has the Uberti Gardone markings and the Ridgefield address. It also does not have a dovetailed front sight. In looking back at the older gun it looks like the rear site was squared, make sense if it was used for accurate shooting.
So it looks like Navy moved between '61 and '63 and Gregorelli Uberti changed to Uberti Gardone around the same time frame. Anyone got a '62 gun to see how it's marked?

My 1968 (XXIV) Uberti Navy also has the Ridgefield address and no dovetail for the front sight.

Did a search online for Gregorelli Uberti and found a couple of older posts on some other boards that detail a 1962 (XVIII) Navy Arms 44. It has the G U under the barrel and the Ridgefield address on top. Its in the 29XX range. Also no dovetail sight. Also found discussions by DR Davis mentioning a 3 digit 1960 Remmie in the RPRCA collection, and that the highest G U gun known before the 29XX one was in the 27XX range in  also from 1962. It's amazing what you can learn just by buying an old gun. :)

I have a two digit .36 GU Remmie.  It has a post front sight.

Congrats Pathfinder!

I too looked at that gunbroker revolver but passed due to the dovetailed sight. Glad to see it went to a good home.
