A "New" Player - Sackett
« on: August 22, 2015, 06:12:52 PM »
Was just perusing the current issue of "Guns of The Old West" and discovered a "new" player.

"Five Star Arms" hailing from Utah has jumped into the SA game.  I'd never heard of em before I saw this particular article.
It seems Five Star is also importing the Pietta Octagonal Barrel SA.  Really nifty looking gun I must admit.  Doesn't look like anything from the actual "Old West" but none the less, a real nifty offering.

In my own sordid past, when plied with enough folding green, was know to rebarrel the odd SA with Octagonal stock once in a while.  It's
almost enough to get me back into cartridge guns.  Na.  Neat but not "that" neat.

Still in all, 1860 Army style grip (checkered no less), Lowered and squashed hammer (I are a gunfighter ya know), Uber kool octagonal barrel (make it a 45 to cut some of the weight), could do.  Actually, with 3 1/2 inch barrels, would do.  Well ... nah.  No nipples for the Caps.

I would like to play with one though.  Just for a few minutes.   ;D

Whilst hysterically incorrect, This thing is really quite interesting!

but then I also like these too

http://www.fivestararms.com/product/1858-remington-stainless-steel-sheriff-44/

and I liked the Omnipotent Snubnose, so I guess there's a part of me condemned to like the " never-were's "

does that make me evil?   :P

I hope these don't have the transfer bar safety installed. Otherwise, these "never-were's" will never be bought by me.
A work in progress.

Hey Perfesser  :D

Evil??  Not in the slightest.  I think a lot of the Never Never guns were actually shoulda shoulda guns.

Fortunately, for me anyway, as a practitioner of the Snubbie, I already have a pair of Snubbies much like the one shown by 5 Star.  In fact, I actually have around 5 PAIR.  I did find, however, the Thunderer grip frame really didn't work out to well for me.  Had a tough time shootin em Gunfighter.  Swapped a set of Army grip frames on and stashed the Thunderer grips back inna box.

I also have two pair of the "Marshal" gun shown on the web site.  I really do like the Octagonal SAA sorta gun though.  Like Army type grips, Like the Octagonal barrel.  Jury is still out on that low, squashed hammer though.  Maybe.

Still though, no nipples.  Guess I'll pass  8)
