Anyone know where I can get my 1911 case colored?
« on: August 10, 2015, 09:35:02 PM »
I would like to know where I can get my 1911 case colored. I understand what is involved but I'm not buying an oven or the materials to do it. To expensive!!! I posted a pic of what I'd like my gun to look like. Thanks!

Respectfully,

Jeff

Maybe one of these places could do it for you.

I have not used the services of the above listed places.

+ 1 for turnbull they have done several things for me and it's always perfect. You can get cheaper but if your frame warps it really wasn't that great of deal.  Dusty Boddams

Isn't the quality of the job dependent upon the base metal?

In the case of WWI vintage 1911's, I was present when pistol smith Richard Heinie refused to do his magic on such a gun. He said the frame MIGHT be salvageable but the slide would be too soft. Restoration was his best suggestion.

PJ, I don't know, turn bull would be who to ask directly and he would know. I do know this I have 1894 Winchester receiver that was made in the era of high nickel content. I called 3 big color case company's and they all said the same thing "can't be done" and they wouldn't attempt cause it would not work. Called turnbull and 10 days later I had a drop dead gorgeous receiver that went back together perfect. As far as steel goes look at the differences in colt s.a.a.  Over the years . He can even do 98 mausers! He has got the black art of c.c. Down pat.  Dusty

I have had much work done by the folks at classic guns in Illinois. They take time, but great work!

I have heard good things from turnbull but not used them
