Original 1858 Cylinderr pin?
« on: July 07, 2015, 06:17:44 PM »
Picked up a original New Model locally the other day. Yes I will post a pic later on ;D

I need a replacement, or preferably a original cylinder pin. Any leads?

Will any of the new repro pins work? Which is the closest in diameter of the repros? Too large isnot a problem as I can turn it down, too small of course is not a option.  Thanks

I recently saw a link to an article from England about rebuilding an original. I can't recall where I saw it, but likely here. The piece was a wreck and had to be machined in some places and a custom turned cylinder pin. No direct help, but patience and good gunsmithing skills will find a way.

Thanks, Lodgewood has one for the Navy. But we are unsure if they are the same.

I posted another thread with a request that someone could measure a Uberti and Pietta one for me..Hope someone comes through...
A repro will be fine till I run across a original.

I'll try and measure a pietta for you later this evening or in the morning.

Thank you both, yes let me know what the Pietta Measures. I may just order a Pietta and a Uberti and see which one seems to be a better fit possibility and a better Quality.

I rebuilt my relic to shooting condition. It also needed a pin and I found a repro pin works just fine on the 1861. Not all repro parts from Dixie etc will just drop in without mods, sometimes they won't work on an original at all. However the pin was straight forward and okay.

While the wings of the pin are not exactly the same as an original a Pietta one will work just fine.

If any of y'all have been in the hobby very long I'm sure you understand the term "reproduction" is very loosely applied. Lodgewood's site looks great but do your homework guys!

Does anyone know if this would be correct?

Is the "T" handled wrench PC?
No it is not. But does it fit original cones/nipple, yes, it does.

Are you asking about the correct PC wrench? Then ask about percussion or cartridge variation?

Blair.................talk about missing the point :o

My point was that it say's that t wrench is a:
Colt Nipple Wrench (Reproduction for Original)

Above that it says it is found in a search for Colt 1860.

I know it's not an original and you know that I know that.

Hoof Hearted,

No, I wasn't "missing the point" at all.

The vender states "reproduction for original" My second statement addresses this very well.
The vender, says the same thing about many of their parts being set up as reproductions for original arms.
They know this because they check, not only with the original arms but because they also check the dementioins of their products to fit the original arms those parts are made for.
