I handled the samples at Shot Show and Winter Range.  They felt very nice.  Lot's of oohing and aahing from those that handled them.  I think they have only just started shipping recently, so there's not many out there yet, and probably none with a lot of rounds through them yet.  Piettas usually have pretty nice actions out of the box, but the Eliminator 8 has had an action job done by Cimarron (I think Lonnie Ammann is doing them, same guy who does the action jobs on a lot of the Evil Roy pistols).

Want me to say something bad about them?  I hate the cylinder pin on all the Pietta SAA's, with the little flat spot on top that only allows the pin to go in one way and is a hassle (kind of like the Uberti small-frame SAA's).  But an Uberti (or Colt) base pin fits, if the Pietta one bugs you like it does me  :)

They was good in the hand when I touched 'em at the Cowboy Match in February.

The gun looks nothing like anything I have seen that was in the old west, and I have looked for 70 years, looks like some fast draw expert came up with.  Makes one wonder how far away from a real Colt or SA Clone we are going to go. Looks like it's going to go on till they no longer look like a SAA. Too bad they can't try making clones look more like a real Ist. Gen. Colt than a gun that never was.

Who is "they"?  The Italians make some SAA's that are extremely close in appearance to 1st gen Colts.  They have been making those for a good while.  These new guns are for people that want various competition features.  "They" didn't stop making the authentic-appearing versions.

Abaline, didn't mean to tick anyone off, just my thoughts, everone seems to have one unless someone says something someone else does'nt like. You and I know who "they" are as I sold their guns for 35 years along with Ist. 2nd. and 3rd. Gen Colts. The gun will probably go over real good in SASS as they shoot about anything that will fit in a holster and is faster than the next guys. Again hope I don't tick someone in SASS off, as I used to be in SASS but they got way to off in dress and firearms for me, and win at all costs is the game now.  NCOWS at least does a good job of keeping with the old west theme, and keep their firearms of guns used in the old west. Maybe NCOWS will alow this gun, maybe not, that's not for me to say, I hope not but that is just my thoughts. I really think, that if they come up with a gun that will fire faster, and backward there are people that would buy them. Again don't mean to get anyone upset, just putting in my two cents worth.

Reno, you didn't tick me off at all, and I do know where you're coming from.  I doubt that NCOWS will allow this new one.  And I really do have to agree with those who think that SASS has become a race-gun sport.  I wish that short stroke rifles had never been allowed, but they were and eventually SASS had to put a limit on how short it could get.  Did they learn anything from that with the pistols?  Certain smiths have been short stroking Rugers for a long time, then SAA's, and now the factory comes out with it.  Same with the turned down hammers.  Not legal for a long time, but competitors wanted them enough that SASS finally caved and allowed them.  Okay.  Whatever.  At least I can still shoot what I want, and the more authentic models are still made for those of us who want them!

I'm with Abilene. I'd shoot NCOWS if they had one in central Ohio. I enjoy my monthly SASS match, I shoot Classic Cowboy, usually with big 7 1/2 44s and won't hear of short stroking my 73 or 66. I however could never compete with the speed gamers shooting super light 38s with both hands. That's not what I'm looking to get out of it really. I'm there for the history and to enjoy shooting my cowboy gun collection taht keeps growing for some reason.  ::)

I'm going to go load some black powder!

Daniel Dodge, see if you can get some like minded folks together and start your own NCOWS posse. If you're up for a road trip in September, come down to the Louisville area for three days and shoot with us at the NCOWS Eastern Regional. We'd love to have ya.

Thing to Remember.  When you look at the original establishment of SASS Way back in the Way Back Machine, SASS was intended to
be a "Fantasy Game" played at each individuals level.  Those that wanted to run fast could run fast and those who wanted to just amble along could do that as well.  "Fantasy Game."  Remember that.  At each individual's level.  Remember that.
Then let's also remember, some clod introduced Timers so we could se Who beat Whom and from there it was off to the races with
modifications for speed and smooth.  Human nature is to compete, whether it's for food, women, fast cars or guns.  Those who are compelled to compete ....... will.  And those of us who can, will build the machines for them to compete with.
Now,  If you have taken that original tenant, of a Fantasy Game played at each individuals level, and twisted it to be something you wish
it ALL was, to support just what you think, that, is your problem.  SASS was never intended to meet any one single expectation.
Fantasy Game.
Personally, I think those Octagonal barrel guns are some kind of KOOL!!  Use to be able to order an Octagonal barrel from AWA USA.

I had one in my hand at Winter Range, they are one KOOL piece. Jim Martin, who is the Colt tune up specialist here in the West was building up a set of Octagon barreled Custom SAA on Great Western 2 frames several years ago when I visited him in Kingman Arizona. They were 7 1/2" barrels if I recall.
Jim does consulting work for various firms in the firearms Industry. I wonder if he had a hand in this piece ?

My primary complaints with the gun are:  The word on the street is the first production run is already sold out.   You have to feed it suppositories.    there is no place for the nipples and caps.

One COOL looking gun.

Coffinmaker

Already have a bunch of Octagonal barrel Cap Guns.  Don't really need suppository shooters, but these are so KOOL  ;D

Any other monthly matches in that area? I'm about an hour or so away, and I'd be willing to make the trip just to see what's what.

I still haven't seen the real animal, live and in the flesh, however I got bored and went browsing.  On Cimarron's site, I went for the "big" picture and noticed the Locking Bolt Notches in the Cylinder.  The leads to the Locking Bolt Notches have to the longest leads I've ever seen on a factory SA.
Twould appear the guns are being intended to be run Hard and Fast.

I still want to play with one.

Update on the Eliminator 8 - Got mine back around the end of October - Shot one match and plenty of a practice fire - live and dry.  During the match one pistol was having a timing issue - over rotating the cylinder.  New bolt fixed the problem.  During practice - broke the trigger on each pistol.  To make the short stroke work - the hammer and trigger was re-profiled making the trigger sear very thin.  Most likely happen during cocking when thumb slip off hammer.  Two triggers to fix that problem.  Next on both pistols, the pin on the hammer that secures the firing pin came loose.  Actually fell out during practice fire.  Took a trip to a smith to fix that problem.  Think I will go back to buying real Colts.

Ordered mine in July got them in October.  Found one cylinder out of the two guns that I ordered to not have the same locking bolt runway or ramp as the other.  Called Cimarron and they said to send it back.  Got it back after two months it had been sent to their gunsmith and returned from him with nothing done.  Another pard on the wire here said if it is locking up and in time not to worry about the long ramp.  I have been shooting them for the last 3 months and have done 6 or 7 shoots now.  Today was another shoot and they work just great!  I am getting better and better with them shooting Gunfighter.  Missed one target today.

I have no complaints with the workings of these pistols at all!

Give them a try if you need new guns,  mine run real good!
