66 yellow boy carbine holds how many rounds actually

I came across a model 1866 yellow boy carbine with the information stating it held 10 rds +1. Cimarron Arms says the same thing in their catalog......but I have read and been told by actual owners it could hold up to 11 rds +1 up the spout for a total of 12.

So what is it? 10 or 11? Could the follower spring be shorter in some or weaken and allows a extra rd?

Yes.  It's the simple answer.  The carbine has a 19 inch barrel and will normally hold 10 rounds and 1 in the chamber for 11 rounds.
However, if you cut the overlong Magazine spring, or install a cut to length stainless Mag spring, you may well get 11 in the Mag and 1 in the chamber.
Regardless, you start out with the CAS norm of 10 in the Magazine.

What caliber?  It will generally hold ten .45 Colt or 44-40, eleven .38 Spcl.  Remember that the last round you load isn't exactly "in the tube".  It is on the carrier.  Therefore a typical toggle link rifle will hold one more round than a similar length '92 or '94, for example.

My 16" '66 holds NINE .45 Colt and 3/4+ of a 10th round.  So unaltered, out of the box, 9 total in the mag tube.  19" would be an easy 10.
