 Please tell me about the uberti 1883 whitney burgess 44/40 x 25 1/2 " barrel ,,,anyone got one,,shot one,,???

It is a Burgess.  The Whitney is a completely different rifle that no one reproduces.  I did an article on one for the SASS Chronicle several years ago.  Very well made.  But, candidly, it is not a reliable mechanism and you can't really shoot it at competitve speeds.  With BP in .44-40 and operated at a slow to moderate speed it is a fun gun and different from pretty much everything else available.

I didnt shoot one but I handled one in the Shot Show in 2012. A more compact and a more handy rifle than a 1873, and I would say, more beautiful, probably the most beautiful lever action ever made.

like allways with italian replicas, the originals were probably better.

I love lever guns but got rid of my Uberti, it was not smoot and had issies with ignition.
I could of sorted it but got another 73 instead. I have four including a late third modle in 44 WCF.

Burgess had over 900 patents and his first guns were built by Whitney. But the Uberti Burgess rifle is a colt copy

I have a Uberti in 44-40. Great rifle and extremely accurate. But not a contender for CAS use. Very slow compared to a 66 or 73.....But great style points!

The carbine looks nicer than the rifle, would have bought one if Uberti had thought to make one. May be a missec opertunity.

A local SASS shooter showed at one on my NCOWS matches , with two on his cart ...brand new replica & and an original .
Normally he said " he has raced & ss'ed 73's and brought the Uberti to shoot the match, cause his 73's would not pass NCOWS muster."
He also said the original was there for a look see for all , not a to shoot...

The Uberti was a beauty in 44/40 and he ran it through 6 stages without a hiccup, nothing remarkable about his speed.
He still has it , 3 years later , tho I haven't seen him at NCOWS since with it , but doesn't trot it out to SASS matches either.
