Buffalo Arms 56-56 mould for sale- SOLD
« on: April 03, 2015, 09:23:32 AM »
Good morning!

Nothing is constant except change - was fully intending on going down the 56-56 path with two carbines I'm restoring, but the internal voice was too persuasive, so I'll need to move out the last of my 56-56 specific items.

First - a lightly used Buffalo Arms bullet mould ( JM539375 ) - I cast about 100 bullets on this one and liked it alot, but it's gotta go...  The price appears to have jumped significantly recently at Buffalo Arms ($183, yikes!), but I'm asking $150 (+$5 to ship), which I feel is reasonable.

Second - an unused CH4D 56-56 three-die set in the box, never mounted to press, as new from the supplier.  I'd like to get $125 for those.

PM me if interested - thanks!

Although I wish this post was done 6 months ago, when i needed both items, I am glad to see they are going to a good home. I bought both items several months ago from Buffalo and they work perfectly for my centerfire converted 1860 Spencer Carbine. So good luck to the new buyer. Several key points in using the mold. make sure to brush release agent where the top lock swivels and cuts off the spru. Also the temparture of the lead mixture is critical for making perfect bullets. Too cold and the bullets will have worm trails as gas escaping forms lines when it cools too soon. Alot of remelts occurred as I experimented with getting the right temperature. Then the temptation to make the lead too hot, which seemed to accelerate the formation of oxidized trash forming on the top of the molten mass. good luck and fire often.

I probably know the answer, but what is the diameter of the bullet the mold casts?   I have a 56 50 original and I'm looking for a 520 mold,  350 to 375 grains.   Buffalo has it at 150 but I agree, it's a lot to ask for the darn thing.  100 is good if it fits..
   thanks...Ken
