Any pictures of the S&W NM #3 Latches ?
« on: March 19, 2015, 11:40:36 PM »
A few years ago, I modified my RUSSIAN latches to fit my Beretta Laramie's - and I heard of a rare latch for the S&W NM #3 that was TWO fixed rear sights.  The "TINY" little mosquito boobies on the front of the latch and something like the "adjustable" blade on the rear, but it was FIXED.

I believe someone referred to it as the TEDDY ROOSEVELT sight or something?

  Does anyone have any pics?

  Or possibly HAVE ONE?

I would love to recreate a couple or maybe more if others are interested.

THANK YOU!

William

There is a good picture of the sights you are referring to in an article I wrote for Black Powder Magazine. You can read it and see the picture on my web site...   www.rvbprecision.com

A for effort, C- for research.  Those are the adjustable blade sights.

Thanks Major, thats a beauty!

So WHAT exactly was this model of sights called?

THanks friends!

Target Rear and Target front sights.
They maybe found on some .44 Russian New Model # 3's, as well as some New Model's chambered in 38-40 and 44-40, SA and DA revolvers known as "Target" New Model Frontier revolvers.
My best,

Hi Blair,

I thought the "TARGET" rear sight was the "ADJUSTABLE" rear sight?

I don't believe the DA latch is not the same latch as the NM#3 latch, as it doesn't have the "shelf" in the latch that the hammer 'inter locks' with.

One must follow the thread good sir: Mr. Blair mentioned that the SA & DA were the same latch, my retort was a picture of a DA latch that you are referring to...

The picture is meant to illustrate the difference between SA & DA latches, as the pictures above the DA illustrate PERFECTLY the SA latch I am referring to!   ;D

I meant no harm sir, just a tongue in cheek reply with the grades - I am surprised you didn't post a link to your article again...?    :P

I believe I must seek satisfaction from the Masters, whomever they may be.  Perhaps time will reveal them!

The NRA video on Teddy's gun I referenced calls them " Fixed Combat sights"

Wild Willie,

What I did say was that the Target sights may be found on "SOME" revolvers such as the SA and DA models.

I did not say that the latches were the "same" on both models.

Howdy

Not a target model, but this is the rear sight on my New Model Number Three. You can see the 'shelf' and the slot on the hammer that engages the 'shelf'. The latch cannot be opened until the hammer is put at half cock.

Rear sight on a 44 Double Action target model. Yes, the 44 DA model lacked the interlock that prevented the latch from being opened when the hammer was all the way down. The interesting thing is, the two 'ears' which serve as the rear sight for the 'non-target' large frame Top Breaks are also present on the target models. The blade on the 'target sight' is high enough, as is the front sight, that one looks over the two ears and does not see them when sighting the revolver. At least that is how it is with my Target Model 44 DA.

That’s bad business! How long do you think I’d stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he’d pay me that much to stop robbing him, I’d stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

This is supposed to be the Roosevelt New Model #3 fixed sight.

Please keep us posted if you make any.
