"The Searchers" is based on the novel of the same name by Alan LeMay published in 1954.
"Empire of the Summer Moon" was first published in 2010. Fifty-four years after the movie.

Perhaps the novel was based (in part) upon the story of Cynthia Ann Parker (kidnapped in 1836), which was covered in "Empire of the Summer Moon".

Perhaps it was, or maybe on one of the tens or hundreds of others that were captured by the Comanche. Cynthia Ann Parker, like many of the other captured children, did not want to leave her captivity. She tried several times to run away and return to her Comanche family after being "saved" by Sul Ross in 1860.
Those captured as children liked the Comanche way of life, so much so that they went on raids against whites. Those that were at the age of puberty when captured hated their capturer.
Never the less, an interesting story and one of John Wayne's best.

Daniel Boone's granddaughter was captured by the Comanche. An expedition was mounted by the local militia to rescue her and others who were also captured. When the Comanche realised they were under attack, Boone's granddaughter was killed by a spear.

nagantino, are you referring to Nancy Darst Crosby ,who was captured at Linnville, Texas in 1840?  If so I found one source that states she is the daughter of Elizabeth Bryan Darst, 1st cousin of Rebecca Bryan Boone.
Of course, I've seen other sources that state she is Daniel Boone's granddaughter.

Bob, I haven't the book anymore, Empire or the Summer Moon. I have the unfortunate habit of loaning books to family members who don't return them........... I remember being struck my the fact when I read it though. It was stated as a bald fact but your reading would indicate a more more nuanced thing. I'm on holiday in San Francisco and looking for another on my list called Bloody Mohawk. No luck yet.

That's the one. I go home tomorrow to Ireland so I won't get it at a good price used. Postage ramps it up a tad to Ireland.

buttebob, i'm glad you cleared that time warp thing up for me. i thought the book i read when i was 12 was inspired by the book i read when when i was 60. You're probably also right about about the the inspiration for the book, much more likely that it was someone obscure than the "white queen of the Comanches", Cynthia Ann Parker.

maldito, forgetting something between 12 and 60 isn't that bad. My family and I watch Family Feud every night. Last night we were watching it and my son asked why we were watching a rerun. I told him it didn't matter as I didn't remember the contestants and it was probably from a least a year ago. He checked and the show was originally broadcast 6 weeks before.

At least those episodes are spread out. There's a certain channel that keeps showing the same two-part episodes of Matlock once every week.
It's got my head spinning.
A work in progress.

It's not that they rebroadcast it six weeks before, its that I couldn't remember that I had watched it six weeks before.
