Karl,
What type of hunt is this?  Is it a wild hunt or a ranch type of hunt?
Any sites for further information?
Thanks.

These appear to be "ranch" hunts but anything under 20,000 acres is a hobby farm on Kodiak.  http://chiniak.net/buffalo/   These are technically "domestic" bison in that someone is owns them which is why you would not need a hunting license and why they can virtually guarantee a harvest.  Licensed big game guides here are not allowed to guarantee hunts but I understand that success rates on guided "wild" bison hunts are pretty high.  http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=bisonhunting.main  Even ranch hunts on Kodiak Island will be an adventure and a great excuse to buy a new Sharps.

Wood bison are also being reintroduced in Alaska but it will be a while before the population is large enough to support hunting.

IF anyone really wants to go big game hunting in Alaska I used to license the guides here and still know a few.  Fun folks.  Non-Alaskan US citizens only need professional guides for brown/grizzly bears, mountain goats, and Dall sheep but a guide or transporter might not be a bad idea for some other big game species.

I bought my 2 tickets.  I am sure that I have already won  ;) but don't worry, for every 1,300 tickets sold they are offering another bison hunt.

Just think of the photo ops, salmon fishing, and excuse to visit beautiful Kodiak Island.  Kodiak is as green as Ireland wants to be.

I just read an article in one of my Black Powder magazines about Wood Bison hunts in Canada. Seems there is a huge national park up there and they don't want the Bison to move into private land as it will affect the domestic cattle. So the guides hunt around the perimeter of the park and shoot the roamers.

But the Buffalo hunt I want to go on is somewhere in Kansas where it is nearly 100% period correct. Tipi sleeping, Cook Tent, Horses, Period dress and BPCR only.

The story is in Winter Issue #88 of "Black Powder Cartridge" magazine. Written by Tony Kinton. Lee Hawes of Ford KS is the guide.

Alaska is also starting to release wood bison but it will be a while before the population is big enough to hunting.  http://www.alaskawildlife.org/conservation/wood-bison-restoration-project/

As for period correctness of dress and firearms, that will be up to the person who wins this raffle.  I am not sure what this hunt means by "transportation provided" but some of the Kodiak hunts are horseback.  http://chiniak.net/buffalo/

It will be an adventure no matter what.
