Meanea scabbard
« on: February 21, 2015, 09:33:32 AM »
Do pards know if this design was fully carved on both sides or just curved around the top?

I don't know for sure, but I would suspect both sides.

If the customer wanted only one side carved, Meanea would do it that way.  However, his standard practice was to carve both sides.

Skeeter, I have seen a couple of Meanea Scabbards in person. They were not fully carved but the border work wrapped all the way around both sides. Also attached is a picture of a similar scabbard if you look at the top of the scabbard you can see that the floral design wraps over the top of the scabbard.

Well, Skeet. It sounds like you can do it either way, depending on your preference. Be sure to post pics. 8)

I've cut the leather, transferred the pattern and done the big cuts on the first side. I'm putting the background in first then I'll work on the foreground.

Coming along...
(It's tough turning a tight corner with a meander stamp.)

Great job on that meander. I've done a couple of them and getting them that even takes some care. I also like the way you worked your maker's stamp into the design. Very cool.
