Range Report 02-07-2014 - getting there!
« on: February 07, 2015, 03:23:04 PM »
6.5 grains of Trailboss, .430 hard lead. 50 yards, benched.  10 round relay.

Its a 2.75 in group.  It would have been tighter but that one out of the group was the result of a .300 weatherby going off about 4 feet next to me.

Made an adjustment to the back sight to eliminate the left hand bias.

Two Flints - I'll let you know when I find my calipers - of course I've lost it! ???

I know its longer than Winchester factory.  I lucked into a good OAL with this batch, they fed like butter.

CORRECTION - 3.75 in group.  Subtract the high one and the rest are a 1.8" group

I HATE shooting next to big bore rifles!

Two Flints -

The OAL of the loads that produced that target was 1.601 - factory OALs (of the two winchester boxes I bought) is 1.5685.  The 1.601 OAL load chambers any way I can work the lever - slow, fast, down stroke, stop, up stroke etc - just like butter.  The shorter OAL requires me to work the lever fast an finesse cartridge it into chamber.

Anyone in the forum with 44-40 Chiappia Spencer's - can you post your OALs please, it would be interesting how consistent the 44-40 Spencer's are.

My Winchester factory cowboy loads run 1.582 and cycle very  smoothly thru  my rifle.

Interesting treebeard.  I'll load some up at that OAL and see how I do.
