Whitney Kennedy value???
« on: February 01, 2015, 09:18:58 AM »

I'm in the market to add a Whitney-Kennedy to my collection. Anyone want to give an opinion on what it is worth? The seller and I are negotiating.
I have an opportunity to buy this rifle:

Ser # 3031, DOM 1881, 44-40
Complete working comdition with shootable bore (85%)

Many more Pictures here:

I picked it up from my FFL last night......I love it! I can't believe how silky smooth the action is. No Short Stroke here......this is a Long Stroke rifle. And the "S" lever is not great for speed shooting.

The rifle is totally refinished and reblued which damaged some of the value, but it looks beautiful. Very strong rifling and no issues I could see.

I'll take some pictures and get them posted tomorrow.

Thanks!

Looks to be a nice refurb job.  It's a twin to the one I have.  Original finish on a Whitney-Kennedy is a bright Sky Blue almost iridescent.

A couple of tips.

-Don't leave them cocked - the mainsprings are near irreplaceable if they break.  When storing mine at a shoot, I open the lever enough to roll the bolt back but not cock the hammer.

-Be prepared for everyone to ask "What kind of Winchester is that?"  ;D
