How many 45-70's from a pound of powder
« on: January 06, 2015, 11:02:40 PM »
I am trying to figure out my cost for reloading my 45-70 rounds with Old E 2F powder.

I drop 70 grns into the cartridge. I have never counted but have any of you guys ever determined how many 45-70's you can load from 1lb of Old  E 2f using 70 grns per?

Thanks,

Tater Pickens

7000/70 =100
16.45/100=16.45 cents

If you are loading 70gr by WEIGHT then you will get 100 loads from a pound of powder.

If you are loading 70gr by VOLUME you will need to find the weight of a charge then divide the weight into 7,000.  That will give you the number of loads per pound.

Still get 100 rounds per pound. Using a quality blackpowder measure for muzzle loading a 70 gr setting will yield 68-71 grs depending on how you fill it, and of course if using a powder measure such as the lyman 55, then the volume it drops will be what ever you and the scale decide to set it to... ;)
