USFA Sparrowhawk on Gunbroker
« on: December 31, 2014, 09:21:36 PM »
I see that there is a .327 magnum Sparrowhawk for sale on Gunbroker (http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=460917795).  I doubt if many of these ever left the factory.  It has become one of those "forgotten" USFA models.  As of this posting, it has been on GunBroker for less than 24 hours and has had 18 bids and is now at $2525.
Anyone here in on the bidding?

My memory is fading but this revolver is a one off.  We ran out of the standard Sparrowhawk front sights and this one came from Brownells and adapted to the barrel.  The blade was cut down slightly because of the low recoil of the 327.  Again, I may have this confused with another revolver but the customer was not happy with the front sight because it didn't look like the picture.

I've won some and lost more to the bidders on that list.  But $4K?  IMO it is stupid money.   Only a week to go, guess the guys wanted to sort it all out quickly  ::)

$4412 and still two days to go!  The fact that it is not a standard model is most likely the reason why it is going so high.  I am sure that there were very few Sparrowhawks ever produced and this particular gun, according to Gary G (who ought to know), is truly one of a kind.

One hour and 26 minutes to go, 32 bids and it is up to $4660.  Fun to watch - glad I'm not bidding!

Pangaea, and Shorty McKenny have both out bid me on guns recently.  Shorty for sure has been having a run at the USFA guns with some deep pockets.

Last Colt I bought was a new Colt with 4 3/4" nickel, Nutmeg once piece ivory, unfired and in the box with a factory trigger job.  Cost was $1800.   That was last week on one of the gun sites.  So still some reasonable guns to be had at decent prices if you look around.

New nickel Colts have been selling for around $2k.  Jim's ivory is $600 plus $100 in shipping.   Trigger/action job if it is any good is likely worth a few $ and again some.

I get it about the Sparrowhawk.  I'm just not that kind of collector I guess.
